Functionality

without comments

What do you need to function?
Do you must have a coffee in the morning?

Or, a warm milk before studying?
How about music for studying?
And please, who can work in the afternoon without first taking a nap?

I never felt I was an organized person, I always had to think about de-cluttering stuff in my room, on my desk, or in my mind.
Let it be excuse or sincerely truth, I do (seems to) have preordained procedures I had to follow to get things rolling (yea, not = done).

For example, I had to have a spacious desk to work with – a spot for my ginormous (gigantic+enormous) textbooks, a spot for a drink, a spot for Pipi to lie on, and other spots for papers and stationaries. I think Uncle Su shares the same of such fetish as I do.

Now with projects and projects in hand, I’m still feeling around to find the right spot where I can just sit and work.

Yeah…

However, after some self-reflection, I think what I have just said is a form of procrastination.
Ahhh…

How about a simple hike?

without comments

So much has been going on, it feels quite nice to hike up the one-hour-long-and-quite-steep hill (Rattle Snake Trail).
Mountains were submerged in clouds and people look like tiny ants in the ‘pool’ at the bottom.
Clouds changes the looks of the depth of the lake every now and then.
It was more of a one-day trip rather than a morning prayer meeting. But it was nonetheless good.

I hope I can get some photos from Uncle James to show our majestic hike!

We should hopefully be done with most of the code and the UI by Monday. :)

Drown by grumbling

without comments

Isn’t it our petty nature to complain whenever we feel things aren’t heading our way. As long as we aren’t satisfied, as long as we didn’t get what we wanted, things aren’t cool and we go un-smiley face.

That’s where I am right now, grumbling at being offended, grumbling at the lack of work done. There always seems to be something that I can find to blame. But amidst all the complains and yell of discontentment, I have a feeling that God is somewhere. You know, he might just intervene and do something, or speak to me during prayer or service. It’s like you aren’t on a good relationship with someone close to you, but you know he is there. And when the ‘he’ is God, its kinda different.

Just yesterday I grumbled about being offended and treated unfairly (to myself). And in the evening during cadre, Andrew shared about being offended! And I was like, I saw this one coming, but still its quite amazing. Something he talked about really hit me:

  • When we are walking in God’s will, we see God; when we are offended/grumbling, we see ourselves
  • When we are offended, it robs away our joy and peace, and we don’t even know what the person had gone through when he offended you!

Romans 14:17

For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

and then,

Romans 15:13

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 14:17, then Romans 15:13.

It’s cool to hear these words, at least I know what I’d to work on.

God is everywhere ah! Watch out, and be surprised!

So there she was, sitting right in front of me, with hoops & yoyo in hand.
My flight leaves in less than 6 hours, we have been out the entire night.
Now the sun is slowly breaking the darkness that I was hoping to keep as if it cages us.

There wasn’t mindless passion. But with her doing the unusual, there was a hint of feeling that sparks in the air.
I don’t remember too much about that night, but she still makes a wonderful impression in my heart.

She’s so calm yet so independent. Of course I’m not assuming my views as if we were in a relationship.

What if the evening that I had held her hand, she blushed.

Every now and then, John Mayer reminds me of her or now Jon McLaughlin.

Taking away all the physical, all the emotion, I do think about her every now and there.
Her gentleness, her blurness, or her quick-wit.

A long night in Seattle, somehow I had hope we had work out.

Person I want to meet in Heaven (A Review of Chariots of Fire)

without comments

Not exactly fantasizing, but I do think about meeting people in Heaven (which I hope I’m going to). And after ‘Chariots of Fire‘, Eric Liddell will definitely be one of them.

A movie composed beautifully with lyrical music and poetic lines, reminded us about God’s will in us. A man born in China, felt for China, served China. Eric was aware of his purpose in life, let it be running or being a missionary, it is not about his desire, as he is quote saying in the movie, it is to honor God.

The words used are quite clever, yet practical (at least to the Englishmen), nothing over the top. I do need to emphasize on the choice of music used. It’s close to perfection. The emotion that Harold and Eric might be feeling are largely amplified by each notes and musical choice made (please excuse my lack of knowledge to identify those music).

Again, it’s a must-watch for most audiences. It would work for you if you are after sports, documentary, action, faith, a tiny bit of comedy (that’s how I felt when I first saw him run) and maybe some tears of joy? :)

I believe God made me for a purpose. For China.
But he also made me fast. And when I run I feel His pleasure.

- Eric Liddell from ‘Chariots of Fire’

Mustering the Joy

with 2 comments

true joy, true joy

The Chinese has a saying that describes life – 酸甜苦辣.
3/4 of life is sour, bitter and spicy, only 1/4 is sweet.

Ha! But the bible says something like this – Rejoice, rejoice, and rejoice.
Yes, you have to muster and collect joyful memories.
It’s by choice.
For our God is a good God, and like all father and even more, he cares and loves us.

I was going to share about the lack of joy in some areas of my life, but hey, I guess not.
God is good ah! Like 小Tim would always say, God is here all the time, doesn’t matter if you are tired or if you are sad, He is here ah!
When you are down listen to some sermon that adds to your faith ah!

Oh man, pray that you will be filled with Holy Spirit because you only can contain so much in your body.
Let’s get away the bad stuff.

I’m sorry if I gave up, I’m sorry I lost my patience, I’m sorry if I took away joy from you.
It’s not the end, it never is, I’m only 21 and I have hopefully a few decades to go, but its what’s after that few decades that concerns me and you!

Haha! C’mon, pray like crazy for you are saved, for you have the authority to rejoice, for you have something to hold on that no one else does. For you are God’s children. I do not want to worry about tomorrow for it holds worry for tomorrow! Our life is brief and temporary, too much to give up about tomorrow or yesterday for today. For our God is a living God. Amen ah!!!!

A Close One to Call, always

without comments

When is a life, a good life?

It seems like a close one to call.
How about a good evening with some healthy brown rice, a pair of loving parents and two lovely kids, while John Mayer is playing in the background, and knitting too?

I like that, apart from the air, which was a little chilling.

Camping was windy, kinda freaky me out, but it was fun and very interesting. :)
Mark was well equipped for living, cooking, pooping, we even have hot showers!
The stars at night are amazing – thumbs up to God.

I’m trying out for COSTO security intern baby!

It’s a public holiday still you know. And sleeping is always part of it.

First Seattle crowd we were in as a family.

It’s only 9+, and the hills are packed with Seattlites.

Symbol of freedom. (Reminded me of War of Worlds somehow)

Worth the wait, very nice combination of music and fire powder. Poof goes a couple millions.

(for more picture)

July 4th, a day to celebrate the independence and freedom, and a day of sales.

Review: Transformers (without the spoilers)

with one comment

Optimus Prime is kinda cheesy at times, but hey, he’s the Mr. Nice Guy after all.

Even though my memory may fail me as how the Transformers look on cartoon 15 years ago, I still remember them as one of my favorite cartoon of all-time (in the 21 years that I have lived at least). And I’m still the proud owner of some Autobots toys back in Singapore/China.

It’s an alien movie, its an technological movie. Not so much about the Mars as shown on some previews. Instead, most of the action is back on Earth. And since we are the dominant species, so did we get most of the film time, although quite abit was spent on the transformation part.

I’m not much of a writer, let alone a review-writer. And neither am I a wonderful critic.
But this movie does hit the spot. Half-way through the movie, with the urge to rush to the restroom for the second time, I thought to myself, “Man, this is so much better than our Spidey or Shrek or even Mr. Sparrow himself.”

When you try to enjoying a film with the eyes of politics (as smart as you think you might be), its not going to be a very enjoyable experience for yourself – i.e. the NY Times guy who reviewed the film. I mean this movie has its laughs and cheesy parts alike, none of which had diminished the success of the film. And take note of this, at the end of the movie, except for in Star Wars III, the audience clapped, cheering on a job well done.

On a scale of 1-5, with 5 being you gotta see this, I’ll give it a 6 – YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME IF YOU DON’T SEE THIS.

Yeah, its that good (for the boys at least).
