Day 52: Learn to Live,

without comments

by learning about dying.

German photographer Walter Schels took a series of terrific photographs not only of the living, but also of the dead.

Not surprisingly, death causes fear and regrets. Fear of what is to come, regrets of what has yet to be realized. It may be creepy to go through those 22 photographs, but it may give you a entirely different perspective towards living.

Do all you can to live your life to the fullest, because you don’t know when death creeps in, and you don’t know if the works you have done will reap harvest (as described in Ecclesiastes – Everything is Meaningless).

This was meant to be my 365-day post.

1st Half of AS Roma vs. Man Utd (4.1.08)

without comments

Go Ronaldo!

“…and Ronaldo leaps like a salmon to power the ball past Doni. A brilliant goal.”

That left the scoreline at the half 1-0 to Man Utd.

It was not as smooth sailing as the score has it. With Nemanja Vidic injured and had to be substituted at the 34th minute, Man Utd was stretched thin at the back. And the passing game that Man Utd demonstrated on Saturday against Aston Villa was not played to full efficient as passes were intercepted in midfield by the dozens. Especially notable is Anderson, who earned himself a careless yellow card near the end of the half. Talented as he is, he might have shown signs of feeling intimated with several incomplete passes and conceding free kick at dangerous spots.

Pizzaro of AS Roma earned himself a well-deserved yellow card as he bumped into Ronaldo purposefully. Dirty.

With one away goal already in hand, Man Utd should be looking to both defending it and extending that lead, with the latter the team’s traditional preference. But first, we need to keep the ball more.

Let’s go United!

Update: An easy tap in by Rooney made it 2-0. Again, with the mastery of foot work shown by almost all United player, every offense looked threatening and the scoreline could have been much higher. Although I missed out the first 15 minutes of the 2nd half because of connection problem, I had too much confidence in Ferdinand and company – evidently all the crosses were cleared cleanly.

My honest opinion? Man Utd are through to Semi Final, it would be much harder for Van der Sar to concede a goal at Old Trafford. And if nothing goes to wacky at Nou Camp next Wednesday, Man Utd should be able to face Barcelona come April 23rd. Now, that would be nerve-wrecking.

Musicians vs. Others

without comments

“You leave every frustration, struggling, brain-storming at practice room, but present a brilliant and confident living character on stage.” – A music major

It is easy to take credit away from them whenever you see them outside of the practice room, not practicing. Outside of the practice room, they look so carefree and relaxed – doesn’t have to worry much about homeworks, presentations, or exams (although there are exceptions). Here, outside of the practice rooms, is where you live with them as you witness their lives.

However, since every coin has two sides, the same should be expected of these music majors, where spending 1/3 of their day in the practice room is not uncommon (to practice that is). And unlike many others, practices doesn’t end following recitals, auditions or exams. It’s a marathon that begins with commitments at young ages, and ends with retirement at the finish line – God knows the span of that period.

So next time whenever you meet a music student out in the real-world, think of this – the limited carefree lifestyle is just a way to deal with the intensity of the lasting practice room.

Dorks they might be, but admirable and respectable they should also be. :)
